dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400 pro/xt)
this is sort of similar box (later dell 755) as last horrid box.. I suspect issue with last box MAYBE related to video card, this is a little different, but I can test 'live' on a different dell with identical video card (as reported by lshw anyway) if required later...

this tested started better (got called away so didn't get to see initial startup, if it was normal or very.very slow like last box).
however when I adjusted display.settings to have landscape+portrait, the landscape display became unreadable, and I obviously made mistake as portrait was upside-down.. GUI isn't usable as menu is on unusable display
https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipPcjlzMvHtKIQVmi4QLOaY1_yLPbhFXbYFA...
(the right monitor is upside-down only because I wrongly set the orientation, if I'd set it correctly I'd have turned the other display off & kept using box longer)

the display on left screen varied and appeared to change ~3 times per second where panel was, in time for where cursor was in terminal, but would occasionally stop changing & become static.

this box appears to have IDENTICAL files in /var/crash... I reached point where I was starting to feel ~queezy so Sysrq-REISUO box

dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)

system appears stable (no led on thumb-drive so can't see IO from that device), but no panel, nothing is functional though, I can move mouse around, clicks don't do anything, not even on install kubuntu icon top left.

eventually it came good..
kubuntu@kubuntu:~$ ls -la /var/crash

firefox; stream local news in window, maximized, f11 & fullscreen, no issues
dolphin (plan was to navigate to my hdd & open some found files using installed apps, ... nope

it's paused again... been 2+ mins, firefox is still streaming news, but dolphin has outline borders for the window, and nothing else... middle of dolphin-window shows background... (terminal where I copy/pasted /var/crash detail here)..

I clicked dolphin at menu again, then nothing, wait another minute... (firefox keeps streaming news)...

I click on firefox & suddenly BOTH DOLPHIN windows appeared... does the issue relate to video card?? and my display isn't being updated????

i try and continue, using a dolphin window I can't find where to navigate to my hdd partitions, so open menu to 'mount' with KDE.Partition.Manager.. and menu freezes for ages...

something is up... i close menu, try again to open menu.
his time menu opens & kde partition manager is easily found, it starts & actually has now stopped with the window "Scanning device /dev/fd0" (scanning a floppy?????) I do have a floppy inserted b/c of recent calamares testing with floppies, but I don't expect it to be an issue...

try to take screenshot of :"Scanning device /dev/fd0" and it appears to work, now it's stopped again, "Unsaved* - Spectacle" border of window but contents now the background (I did drag it around which caused contents to be replaced by terminal which is underneath it... long delay.. system keep stopping for 20+ seconds (not timed, so very subjective..) The save dialog just appeared like others, eventually it comes good, but time enough for me to click on this page, and type 70% of this paragraph is too slow to be usable.

kde partition manager still scanning /dev/fd0

dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)
i'll try again this box... the issue experienced last time did NOT occur on other d755 or hp7700
same crash files in /var/crash; submitted
it looked ready on first boot but wasn't, once machine was actually ready performance was good

kde.partition.manager on starting caused floppy drive to start spinning (I can hear drive start, at least .5 seconds which is the minimum spin anyway) but it appeared and operated (making no changes) as if expected.
i manually mounted hdd partition (2 actually) and then opened files using installed apps, jpg, mp3, txt, jpg, png, etc

hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
I want a good test, this box doesn't have a AMD radeon card!
adjust displays to match my configuration
open terminal, mount hdd to /mnt so I could open files, alas qa-test install and nothing of value was there, so I just opened some random apps
firefox; nope can't find web (last qa install must have been no internet), plug in cable & now I can stream local news in window, maximized, f11 & fullscreen on each display
change wallpapers on each display, open random apps & some general user type play
