dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)
another kernel panic???
I'm assuming that is bad write to media... (was written with `sudo dd bs=4M oflag=sync status=progress of=/dev/sdb if=/de2900/xubuntu_64/hirsute-desktop-amd64.iso`)
---
re-written media with `dus`... still having trouble booting, but can't rule out hardware issue, as bios selection isn't allowing me to pick USB.. xubuntu isn't involved yet! finally got it detected.

shadowy icons on desktop (except for install), no ctrl+alt+T, menu icons are boxes for all.apps, accessories, internet, office, settings
`xfsettingsd --replace &` fixes as usual

click on drive(partition) icon on desktop, open in thunar, navigate to an $HOME directory for an installed system, open found apps using default programs (.gnumeric in loffice.calc), and all tested opened appropriately..

hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
ends in kernel panic??? (booted many times)
is it bad write or not? (hard to concentrate during the media-test as it slowly progresses)
ISO was valid; written to media using `dd`
--
media was re-written this time with `dus`
media check completed for sure this time..

shadow icons on desktop again, some icons are boxes in menu, and ctrl+alt+T doesn't work
`xfsettingsd --replace &` will fix this

on booting, at first it started with block strange graphics (nvidia issue I see elsewhere), but it came good after a delay.
random play with menus, but no real testing.. I'll move to next (prior failed boot) box

sony vaio svp112a1cw (i5-9400u, 4gb, intel haswell-ULT)
media re-written, this time with `dus`
icons on desktop are shadow-like (except install icon which has color)
ctrl+alt+T doesn't work, menu items don't have good icons (shadows)
fixed with usual `xfsettingds --replace &`

PANEL AT TOP has 2x wifi, 2x BLUETOOTH??????
also volume icon is changing when connecting to wifi
minor other stuff, firefox to report bug.. but I'll end testing to explore why I had trouble on earlier boxes..

sony vaio svp112a1cw (i5-9400u, 4gb, intel haswell-ULT)
third box; all end up in kernel panic.. d755-5 & this are quick to panic, dc7700 was very slow and almost finishes media check (87% anyway, but I get bored & stop watching)..
the ISO was written with a `dd` command.
