Scope of this test is to start a recovery session.

  1. Boot from CD or USB in real hardware or run the image in Testdrive
  2. At the main screen press ESC
  3. Select "Rescue a broken system"
  4. Choose the desired language
  5. Choose the language
  6. Select your location
  7. Configure locales
  8. At configure keyboard page, select NO
  9. Select the country of the keyboard
  10. Select the keyboard layout
  11. Select hostname ubuntu as default
  12. Verify or setup the timezone
  13. Choose the device to use as root filesystem
  14. The list of the Rescue operations>/strong> will be showed:

Execute a shell /dev/sda1 (or what you have choosed as root filesytem)

  1. Press Enter to proceed into the rescue mode
  2. Type in standard commands like ls, cd /usr/games/, ls, cp sol sol1, ls
  3. Ensure that changes have been made and that there is a new file created
  4. Type Exit and press Enter to return to the menu
  5. From the menu select Reboot the system and press Enter

Execute a shell in the installer environement

  1. Type in standard commands like ls, chroot /target, ls chroot /target changes the root to the partition you selected as root filesystem
  2. Ensure that chroot works and that files are listed in both enviroments
  3. Type Exit and press Enter to return to the menu
  4. From the menu select Reboot the system and press Enter

Reinstall GRUB boot loader

  1. Select Reinstall GRUB boot loader and press Enter. Doing this will remove your Grub config and mbr and place a new automatic version in it's place
  2. Type in where the boot loader need to be run and press Enter. The default for this will be hd0 or /dev/hda (ide) /dev/sda (scsi)
  3. From the menu select Reboot the system and press Enter
  4. Ensure the system boots as expected

Choose a different root file system

  1. This case requires more than one root partition
  2. Select Choose a different root file system
  3. Choose your new root file system and press Enter
  4. Check the new partition is mounted
  5. From the menu select Reboot the system and press Enter
