The goal of this test case is to check that localization support is functional during the installation, that language packs are downloaded and installed correctly from the Internet and that the input methods for either Chinese, Japanese or Korean are working.

  1. Power up your machine and insert the install media
  2. Select 中文(简体) (Simplified Chinese), 中文(繁體) (Traditional Chinese), 日本語 (Japanese) or 한국어 (Korean) as language and press Enter
  3. Select the Install FAMILY option (the second one from the top)
    • In Simplified Chinese "安装 FAMILY (I)"
    • In Traditional Chinese "安裝 FAMILY"
    • In Japanese "FAMILY をインストール"
    • In Korean "우분투 설치"
  4. Once Ubiquity starts click on Forward. (The installer should be localized from the first screen onwards)
    • In Simplified Chinese "前进"
    • In Traditional Chinese "向前"
    • In Japanese "進む"
    • In Korean "다음"
  5. Check if the language you selected is correct on the list and click Forward.
    • In Simplified Chinese "前进"
    • In Traditional Chinese "向前"
    • In Japanese "進む"
    • In Korean "다음"
  6. Select your timezone and click Forward.
    • In Simplified Chinese "前进"
    • In Traditional Chinese "向前"
    • In Japanese "進む"
    • In Korean "다음"
  7. Check if your keyboard layout is correct or alter and click Forward.
    • In Simplified Chinese "前进"
    • In Traditional Chinese "向前"
    • In Japanese "進む"
    • In Korean "다음"
  8. Select Erase and use the entire disk and click Forward.
    • In Simplified Chinese "清空并使用整个硬盘" (Erase and use the entire disk) and "前进" (Forward)
    • In Traditional Chinese "消除並使用整個磁碟" (Erase and use the entire disk) and "向前" (Forward)
    • In Japanese "ディスク全体を削除してから使用する" (Erase and use the entire disk) and "進む" (Forward)
    • In Korean "이전 파티션을 삭제하고 디스크전체를 사용" (Erase and use the entire disk) and "다음" (Forward)
  9. Input your initial user details and password. /!\ Note admin can not be used. It is a dedicated Linux User.
  10. Tick Log in automatically and click on Forward.
    • In Simplified Chinese "自动登录" (Log in automatically) and "前进" (Forward)
    • In Traditional Chinese "自動登入" (Log in automatically) and "向前" (Forward)
    • In Japanese "自動的にログインする" (Log in automatically) and "進む" (Forward)
    • In Korean "자동으로 로그인" (Log in automatically) and "다음" (Forward)
  11. Check if the details are correct on the final page and click Install.
    • In Simplified Chinese "安装"
    • In Traditional Chinese "安裝"
    • In Japanese "インストール"
    • In Korean "설치"
  12. Check that the installer's slides are localized.
  13. Once the installer has finished choose to Restart the system now.
  14. Remove the disc and press Enter.
  15. Allow the machine to reboot.
  16. Verify that your system is localized. For any language, the system has to be fully localized. /!\ Note: the translation coverage of some languages might not be complete.
  17. Verify that the input method works correctly.
    • Simplified Chinese:
      1. Open Applications > Accessories > gedit Text Editor (TODO: translations of menu entries in Simpl. Chinese)
      2. Click on the keyboard icon on the notification area and select Pinyin as the input method to switch to.
      3. Type renlei in the new gedit document and see if it turns out to be 人类
    • Traditional Chinese:
      1. Open Applications > Accessories > gedit Text Editor (TODO: translations of menu entries in Trad. Chinese)
      2. Click on the keyboard icon on the notification area and select Chewing (酷音) as the input method to switch to.
      3. Type bp6xo4 in the new gedit document (or if you have a keyboard with Bopomofo, type ㄖㄣˊㄌㄟˋ), press Enter, and see if it turns out to be 人類
    • Japanese:
      1. Open アプリケーション > アクセサリ > テキストエディタ
      2. Click on the keyboard icon on the notification area, select 日本語 - Anthy as the input method to switch to.
      3. Type nihon in the new gedit document, press Enter and see if it turns out to be にほん.
      4. Type nihon again, then press space and see if it turns out to be 日本 or 二本. Keep pressing space to cycle between the presented options, if necessary
    • Korean:
      1. Open Applications > Accessories > gedit Text Editor (TODO: translations of menu entries in Korean)
      2. Click on the keyboard icon on the notification area and, select Hangul (한국어) and then han2 (m17n) as the input method to switch to.
      3. Type gks rmf in the new gedit document and see if it turns out to be 한 글
  18. Check that the calendar shows the regional settings correctly.
