update-manager says theres a new release to upgrade, but then fails to find it to install (#1383943)

| update-manager -d -c says that there is a new release to upgrade, but choosing to do so sends the message that no new release was found and ends the process
main server was selected as source and any new version was selected as well.
EDIT:
as suggested on the bug doing:
DEBUG_UPDATE_MANAGER=1 /usr/bin/do-release-upgrade -d
allowed me to do the upgrade, everything went smooth and no more issues to report
