dell [optiplex] 780 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd 5000/6000/7350/8350)
testcase: install with an existing partition (sda3)
reboot; new focal install looks good; my pre-set display config present, altered wallpaper; clementine music player was already installed & configured... switching to terminal & exploring and it's what I'd expect to see on a 'upgrade via re-install'
reboot & 21.04 system looks as expected; ie. untouched
reboot & 20.10 system looks as expected (will be 21.10 soon I hope)
reboot & debian bookworm is booting now; assuming it's all good
