hp 8200 elite sff (i5-2400, 8gb, nvidia quadro 600)
ctrl+alt+T opens up from start; menu has all icons; is the [xfsettings] issue related only to ancient-hardware?
adjust display to match my setup (one above other; default-right to below default-left)
firefox; stream local news in small window, maximized, f11 & fullscreen on each display (dragging window around etc)
media volume & mute keys work as expected. quit firefox
adjust panel preferences, add additional panel on bottom of my lower display; populate etc, add more workspaces, weather applet (it picked a place I didn't know, looked up where it could be & it's ~24km WNW which is appropriate by ip address)
adjust appearance, wallpapers & other stuff...
suspended system, waited.. keyboard woke it with ESC & session resumed.
re-opened firefox & it had sound... all great !

hp dx6120mt (mini-tower, pentium 4 dual core, 3gb, winfast clone of nvidia 7600gt)
// this box is x86 (not x86_64) so FAILURE to boot is expected, but looking for an appropriate error message
eventually got "This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU \n Unable to boot - please ..." so all good and hopefully my room is 1oC warmer :)

lenovo thinkpad sl510 (c2d-t6570, 2gb ram, i915)
// it still has external vga connected
connect to hidden 2.4ghz wpa2 network
adjust display to match setup (external on floor, laptop on coffee table) - had issues here as the moment I moved my external-vga the window froze, display window went blank without any text & picture of my screens showed only laptop display outline with my moved external now invisible/gone (I could move it around, but not use anything on it; it was blank..) i didn't see prtscr on keyboard, attached external & couldn't get it to work, also ctrl+alt+t wasn't opening term so likely `xfsettingsd --replace` issue. main menu has some items (web-browser, term, help) without icons so believe it's this issue.. On odd occasion I can see the resolution on window, but i can't see pattern as to why as it blanks & repeating what I think caused it to display doesn't work again..

yep `xfsettingsd --replace` fixed whatever issue was, display window now is fully visible, all menu items have icons, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-settings/+bug/1827459 & https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-settings/+bug/1821652 issues..

firefox; stream local news in small window, maximized, f11 & fullscreen on each display. media keys used to adjust volume, mute sound ..
when noticed battery indicator dropped during test appropriately
suspended laptop, waited, it awoke on power-key & session continued..
