all good; rebooted into live & partition was encrypted & I was unable to access using incorrect password, but could access data using my 'secret' password.

"Full disk install without encryption on a BIOS system"
no issues
on reboot, I logged in correctly which ends the steps. (ie. in theory test is over)
i then adjusted screen as part of evaulation (right display is portrait) and I got greeted with https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxqt-panel/+bug/1809205; some play & I was able to get the menu panel to morph onto the other display (i've learnt more from upstream bug report & whilst I haven't yet filed this bug upstream, I suspect it's related to others where fields are likely not being initialized & 'play' can cause values to be stored in the fields & issue resolves..). I'm reporting this here as this install will shortly be wiped.
