PROBLEMS FOUND IN THIS TEST
The countdown seconds display on the first screen displayed after
booting displays numbers without erasing the previous numbers.
(Reported as Bug #1793231.)
The following entries in the application start menu (lower left)
appear to do nothing:
Accessories > Qlipper
Accessories > compton
Accessories > Document Viewer
Office > Document Viewer
(Reported as Bug #1793234.)
The system othewise appears to be functional.
DETAILS OF TEST
Downloaded cosmic-desktop-i386.iso for 2018-09-17 and burned to DVD.
Booted a Live Session from the DVD on a 32-bit Macbook Pro 1,1 (2006),
with 1.83 GHz Core Duo (T2400) processor and 2 GBytes RAM. Screen
resolution is 1440x900.
Booted by depressing "option" after power on, with DVD inserted in
drive, then selecting DVD (called "Windows") on the Mac boot screen.
Got language screen (whole screen, not just left column). Countdown
timer on left displayed numbers without erasing previous numbers.
Allowed to continue with "English" default after timeout period done
(though it took longer than the apparently intended time).
Got "lubuntu" with changing dots underneath. After a couple minutes,
screen blanked, then a minute or so later the cursor appeared (movable
with track pad), then after another couple minutes the Live Session
desktop appeared.
Left it alone. The screensaver appeared after about 10 minutes; went
away when shift pressed. Came back again after another 10 minutes or
so. I set it to only blank screen rather than use screensaver with
the Preferences > Screensaver dialog. This worked as expected.
Keyboard and track pad work, including two-finger scrolling with track
pad. Screen brightness and audio volume control function keys work
correctly.
Connected successfully to a wifi network.
APPLICATION TESTING (FROM MENU ACTIVATED IN BOTTOM LEFT CORNER)
Accesories > Ark.
Created terminal window with System Tools > QTerminal. Created a
couple small files with "cat >x", etc. Archived them successfully.
Accessories > FeatherPad
Typed in some text in this editor and succesfully saved it.
Accessories > KCalc
Successfully computed 88+6.
Accessories > PCManFM-Qt File Manager
Navigated to a text file on the hard disk, clicked on it, wherupon
LibreOffice was started to view it (sucessfully).
Accessories > Qlipper
Nothing appears to happen when this is selected.
Accessories > QtPass
A screen with boxes and instructions came up. I didn't try to do
anything, not being familiar with this program.
Accessories > Vim
Came up in a new terminal window. Created and saved a small file.
Verified file has the entered text with "cat" in a terminal window.
Exitted with :q, confirmation dialog came up, answered "Yes", worked.
Accessories > compton
Nothing appears to happen when this is selected.
Accessories > fcitx-qimpanel-configtool
A dialog comes up, and settings can be changed, but I don't know
whether they work, since I don't know what they're supposed to do.
Accessories > nobleNote
Was able to create a note, which was stored in the nobleNote directory.
Education > LibreOffice Math
Created a small expression. Exported it as PDF. Exitted, saving file.
Tried to install evince to view it with "sudo apt install evince".
Install apparently succeeded, but evince failed to start. Produced
warning "Locale not supported", and then "failed to retrieve device
information" and "unknown chip id 0x71c5, can't guess".
Output of "locale" was that the locale was "C.UTF-8". Setting LANG=C
changed locale to "C", which got rid of warning, but still failed,
now with "Error opening directory ?/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/evince/4/backends?:
permission denied". Gave up on evince.
Successfully opened the PDF file with "Open File" in Falkon. Saw it
used qpdfview, which also worked when started directly with PDF file
as argument.
Games > 2048-Qt
Starts up, does things when arrow keys pressed. Not sure if what it
does is correct or not.
Graphics > Document Viewer
Nothing appears to happen when this is selected.
Graphics > LXImage
Used it to capture an area of the screen, saved it (as .png), quit.
Then started LXImage again, and successfully opened and viewed the
previously saved .png file.
Graphics > LibreOffice Draw
Drew a squiggle and saved it. Found the saved file in File Manager,
and clicked on it to start LibreOffice to view it (successfully).
Graphics > Screenshot
Successfully took and saved a screeshot of a window (using a delay).
Graphics > Skanlite
A window opened up, which correctly said that no scanner was attached.
Internet > Falkon
Started it. Went to cbc.ca, worked correctly. Went to youtube
and successfully viewed a 720p HD video (including audio).
Internet > Qtransmission Bittorrent Client
Starts up. I didn't click "Agree", though, since I know nothing
about this.
Internet > Quassel IRC
Starts up. I didn't go through the setup, though.
Office > Document Viewer
Nothing appears to happen when this is selected.
Office > LibreOffice
Office > LibreOffice Calc
Office > LibreOffice Draw
Office > LibreOffice Impress
Office > LibreOffice Math
Office > LibreOffice Writer
These all start up and appear to work with very superficial testing.
Office > qpdfview
Starts up and successfully displays a PDF file.
Sound & Video > K3b
Starts up. Can't test, since the drive is occupied by the
Live Session DVD.
Sound & Video > VLC media player
Starts up. Played around with recording desktop. Seems to do something
that's perhaps what's intended.
System Tools > Discover
Went to "Biology" and installed the "Achilles Life Simulator". It
worked, and this program appeared in the program menu (under Education).
When selected, it started and did something (not sure what it means).
System Tools > fcitx
When run, a new keyboard-like icon appears on the lower right.
I don't know what it should do, appears to do nothing.
System Tools > Htop
Brings up a new terminal window, with a "top" display.
System Tools > Install System
Brings up the Lubuntu installer. I clicked "Cancel".
System Tools > K3b
Starts up. Can't test, since the drive is occupied by the
Live Session DVD.
System Tools > KDE Partition Manager
Starts up and correctly displays the existing partitioning of the
hard drive. I then quit.
System Tools > Muon Package Manager
Searched for "hwloc". Selected hwloc-nox for installation, and
selected "Apply Changes". Program then quit (possibly intended
behaviour?). The "lstopo" program from the hwloc-nox package then
worked in a terminal, as expected (displaying output as text, not
graphically, which it sometimes does on other systems).
System Tools > QTerminal
Opened a terminal window, which behaved as expected.
System Tools > QTerminal dropdown
Opened a terminal window that was fixed at the top of the screen and
which disappeared as soon as focus moved to a different window. If
this is intended behaviour, I'm not sure why it would be considered
useful...
System Tools > Startup Disk Creator
Starts up. Can't test, since drive occupied by Live Session DVD.
System Tools > nm-tray
Didn't seem to do anything, perhaps because wifi was already connected.
The name "nm-tray" seems to have nothing at all to do with the function
(Unless "nm" means "network manager"?)
System Tools > qps
Opens a window with a process display. Another overly-abbreviated name.
Preferences > LXQt settings
Didn't exhaustively test all these, but many seem to work fine.
Preferences > Alternatives Configurator
Starts up and shows a list of things. Didn't test beyond that.
Preferences > Fcitx Configuration
Starts up and allows one to navigate among many options. Didn't
test further.
Preferences > iBus Preferences
When started, asks whether I want to start iBus Daemon. I said "No".
Preferences > Printers
Correctly shows a printer on another (mac) computer on the local
network. I successfully printed a drawing in LibreOffice Draw using
this networked printer.
Preferences > Screensaver
Appears to work correctly, allowing me to change the screensaver
to just a blank screen.
About LXQt
Shows information, including LXQt version 0.13.0 and Qt 5.11.1.
Leave > ...
Did not test.
Lock Screen
Screen briefly faded, then came back. Perhaps deliberately disabled
for Live Session.
