Started with Linux Mint Rebecca 17.1 Cinnamon desktop and a thumb drive formatted for an Xubuntu 14.04.2 install.

First Xubuntu install attempt along-side of Linux Mint: Final step reboot hung. Ctrl-Alt-F1 to root user. Tried to reboot but observed "IO Error". After executing `sync; sync; sync` and waiting about 5 minutes, I powered off and powered on. After that, all seems to be well. Cannot detect any issues with Linux Mint or the Xubuntu installation.

Attempt #2: Booted into the thumb drive. Used gparted to delete the Xubuntu partition. Performed along-side installation. This time, the final reboot succeeded.

Attempt #3: Same as attempt #2.

I'll accept the marking of bug report 1419372 as incomplete based on "2 out of 3" successes and the fact that most folks doing an along-side type installation are probably prepared for the unexpected.

    Installed alongside of Windows 7.

In step #16 above, GUI shutdown and shutdown text was displayed on the screen but the prompt to 'remove the media and press enter' never appeared. The system hung at this point. Sending a CTRL/ALT/DEL signal in the VM had no effect. Powered down the VM using the powerdown cammand. Restarted the VM, and the system booted to the Grub menu. Both the Windows 7 and Ubuntu OS choices were present on the Grub menu. Both OS'es boot normally.
(I would have filed a bug report, but did not find a link to do so. Sorry!)
