Attempt to upgrade Xubuntu 12.04 LTS to 14.04. Upgrade process failed at its very beginning because of a known but rare bug (#773581 : check-new-release-gtk is not proxy aware)

Upgrade from Xubuntu Saucy to Trusty. Real hardware.
Very smooth upgrade. I have upgraded my Xubuntu system since 11.04, and for the first time applications previously installed in Saucy with ppa's or deb files (such as VirtualBox) wasn't removed and worked flawlessly after upgrading. System configurations (samba, crontab, users permissions, etc.) entirely preserved.
