Same issue (with starting) here. Blazing fast.
Experienced some plasma-netbook crashes after a while, but didn't have enough space to install dbg packages and get a proper backtrace. Actual bug is from post install (upgrade), but seems similar.

You have to press alt+f2 and then run 'plasma-netbook' in order for it to start up. This is already known as we are working on a way for it to auto-startup. plasma-desktop and plasma-netbook tend to conflict so this is why it isn't done yet.
