I installed to my PII 400Mhz, 256MB RAM

First, GRUB does not install anywhere except on the MBR of the first hard drive. It will act like it is installing, and even complete installing, but when I try to boot after installing to the /boot partition of the hard drive, it does not exist. This appears to be reported as Bug 14135 and Bug 127946.

I can not get a static IP to work, thus I have no internet with this after installation completes. This is the same thing I got using manual resize. I do seem to have a live connection during the installation procedures, since if I change to another terminal (TTY2), during the GRUB install, "ping keepingdreams.com" gives "Ping is alive". Since Network Manager refuses to allow me to enter a static connection, I think that is where the problem lies.

I did allow auto resize to a completely empty partition, hda9. It resized hda9 from 14.7GB to 7.3GB, then created a new sda10 for root and sda11 for swap (even though there were two swap partitions already defined).

The installation process took about 1 hour and 45 minutes on this system. Unfortunately, it's hard to be happy with this when I can't use the internet. This system does have Xubuntu 6.06 installed and working on it. When I install 8.10, the grub installed to MBR does not recognize any other OS on the system.
