dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)
testcase: combined "Custom partition with separate /home" & "Custom with XFS"

custom partitioning with default EXT4 was done recently as covered in https://discourse.lubuntu.me/t/exploration-of-lp-1864787-sfdisk-force-ap...

sda9 showed as UNKNOWN, formatted as XFS, sda8 re-used as /home
EXPECTING issue as the UNKNOWN always caused weird error .. yep
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1864787
SDA8 = re-used /home, SDA9 = new / XFS --- but will I get strange error this time b/c of issue?

custom partitioning with default EXT4 was done recently as covered in https://discourse.lubuntu.me/t/exploration-of-lp-1864787-sfdisk-force-ap...

prior to starting calamares, I've removed SDa9 (unknown) & re-created it as a XFS partition

as before will format sda9 as XFS, sda8 re-used as /home
EXPECTING issue as the UNKNOWN always caused weird error .. yep
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1864787
SDA8 = re-used /home, SDA9 = new / XFS --- but will I get strange error this time b/c of issue?

sddm flashes when cursor is moved around areas of display - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sddm/+bug/1865837
otherwise new lubuntu focal system looks good, re-used home & configs evident, errors due to missing packages as expected.

reboot, lubuntu bionic system looks good/untouched
reboot, game-xp is horrid & slow, so normal

dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)
testcase: combined "Custom partition with separate /home" & "Custom with BTRFS"
SDA8 = re-used /home, SDA9 = new / BTRFS

custom partitioning with default EXT4 was done recently as covered in https://discourse.lubuntu.me/t/exploration-of-lp-1864787-sfdisk-force-ap...

I think calamares showed New York, but was too long ago so ignoring it now

reboot, login to bionic - looks untouched...
reboot, login to game-xp & super slow or normal
reboot, login to new system.. using BTRFS & all looks as it should be
(logged into old session as expected; errors where packages need install etc)
