dell [optiplex] 745 (c2d-6600, 6gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550) I'm having great issues getting this to boot, I can boot (very recent) lubuntu 20.04 daily, but I haven't worked out why it won't boot ubuntu 20.04 thumb-drive. I haven't proven its hardware or not, but it feels like the thumb-drive isn't being recognized thus not Ubuntu/ISO issue
motion computing j3400 (c2d-u9400, 4gb, intel mobile 4 series) another device which has trouble booting it??? boot manager doesn't list the USB thumb-drive as bootable, but it'll recognize other nearby thumb-drives
sony vaio ultrabook (i5-9400u, 4gb, intel haswell-ULT) this crapbook has no ethernet so try and connect hidden wpa2 wifi, no "more" option as per instructions in https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/net-wireless-connect.html.en - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-user-docs/+bug/1820953 (I won't continue with this test; it booted & i'll return to two paused tests that won't boot!!!)
I left box, when I returned the screensaver had kicked in, on waking it returned to purple screen without the expected eoan wallpaper??? right-clicking background won't pull up menu to change.. the box no longer works as I expect it to, and any ability to connect wifi for ubuntu-bug is now gone...
switching to text terminal `dmesg` shows no squashfs errs or any clues as to problems, but wtf? i can't use normal off or reboot options via menu.. maybe the thumb-drive is cursed ??
sony vaio ultrabook (i5-9400u, 4gb, intel haswell-ULT) minor testing outside of leaving box alone, letting screensaver (blanker) kick in, then wake to ensure screen hasn't turned purple or other strange behavior, then leave repeat... (this test has occurred over hours... no issues detected so far, though I've had to reboot as ultracrap has suspended and it reboots on wake... I'll continue with test but not update here anymore..)
dell [optiplex] 780 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd 5000/6000/7350/8350) primary purpose was to ensure wallpaper visible & changed correctly adjust monitors to my setup (swap left/right, and my-right is portrait) open hdd & open a few files using installed apps. system looks good, very short test though
dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400 pro/xt) primary purpose of this was to check wallpaper appeared on boot, i could change wallpaper without issues. I also used nautilus to open hdd & explore some files (using installed) apps but minimal testing open a few random apps - minimal testing
dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550) 'check disc for defects' passed before boot on boot, the background isn't as expected - it's all black with panel top of screen, dock left but black screen otherwise? I tried changing wallpaper, but images were all corrupted?? so https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/1854621 a few random apps were started; no issues otherwise...
