Real hardware.
The upgrade process failed to download flashplugin (bug # 1243090) and was frozen for hours. I checked my connection and it was not an internet connection problem. I killed the downloading process (thanks to google and askubuntu.com) and after that my system rebooted successfully to 14.04 (after multiple and frightening warnings). Flash-plugin was successfully updated after a regular dist-upgrade.

nvidia 173 driver activated prior to upgrade.

In 12.04, there is no 'Notify me of a new FAMILY version' option available in the updates tab. It is labelled "For Long-term support versions."

The new 14.04 setup makes some default application changes. When upgrading from 12.04 to 14.04, the user profile is retained (as it should be) but this means that some of these application decisions are not reflected in the newly updated system. Example, whisker menu. After the upgrade, the panel still includes the original Xfce menu, not whisker. Not sure how to document this other than a note here.

Real hardware, actual used system so many changes, and upgrade went well. Apport notified about two crashes during upgrade, but since the upgrader disables reporting they likely are expected or not a big deal.
