Manually partitioned /boot in ext2, /swap, and / /home in XFS. Installation froze at 90%. Install dialog said "Detecting hardware, please wait...". I've installed a daily Xubuntu Gutsy ISO last week with auto-partioning without issues.

Installed daily 2007-10-14 on "/dev/hda5 on / type reiserfs", other partitions unchanged, no rezise. No problems (except after install I had to copy boot files from /mnt/hda5/boot to my special boot partition and rerun grub-install, but suppose that's standard procedure.)
